Define what clean removal means
Agree what counts as failure: visible adhesive, a sticky patch, torn film, a mark or damage to the surface finish. Painted and coated surfaces need particular attention. Record the surface specification rather than only a broad description such as plastic.
- Identify the substrate, coating and cleaning treatment.
- State how long the label stays attached and temperatures during use.
- Describe how it is removed and whether cleaning afterwards is acceptable.
Check attachment as well as removal
Easy removal is not enough if corners lift before the customer needs to remove the label. Use finished labels of the intended dimensions. Record initial edge hold and removal at agreed intervals, including the intended end of use.
- Use matched surfaces for the current material and proposed sample.
- Record dwell time, storage conditions and temperature at removal.
- Photograph residue and surface changes before trying to clean them.
- Do not extend one successful trial to every surface or storage condition.
A removable construction to discuss
The documented 50 µm coated transparent BOPP face with removable solvent-based acrylic adhesive and 60 g/m² white glassine is a nominal construction to compare. Residue, edge hold and surface compatibility still require an agreed trial.
- Share a surface sample and expected removal date.
- Trial the printed and finished label, not only an unprinted swatch.
- Confirm current construction and sample format before ordering.
Sources and scope
Model examples use the linked RT construction records. The checklist is a proposed observation plan, not a report of completed tests. Confirm the current grade and specification before a trial.
